A new drink debuted recently at Starbucks locations around the country, including the locations at Walt Disney World Resort. The Cloud Macchiato was created through a partnership between singer Ariana Grande and Starbucks. As part of this partnership, Starbucks is implementing their new environmentally friendly lid as standard with each drink. We made it out to Epcot today to check out the new drink and lid.

We’ll start with a look at the new lid. This is the lid of the future at all Starbucks locations. Just like we’ve seen Disney pledge to remove single-use plastics from its parks, Starbucks is looking to remove plastic straws as well. The new “Nitro” lid initially debuted at select locations around the country last year, but the Cloud Macchiato marks the first time that Starbucks will use the lids as a standard way to prepare drinks, according to Cast Members we spoke with. The new lid will eventually be standard on all hot and cold drinks, except for Frappuccinos.

We actually incorrectly received a regular Iced Caramel Macchiato initially, and the employees at Starbucks asked us to keep it while they made the correct drink. It worked out in our favor, because we’re now able to show you the difference between the standard lid on the left and the environmentally friendly “Nitro” lid that comes standard on the new Cloud Macchiato.

The lid was actually quite enjoyable to use and ergonomically pleasant. When the new lid was introduced by Starbucks, they said that it would enhance the flavor of the beverage, and it actually does! The Cloud Macchiato comes with a new egg-white powder foam. By enjoying the drink via the new lid instead of a straw, the new foam hits the lips first, adding another level of flavor to an already enjoyable drink.

As for the drink itself, it’s really good. Starbucks has noticed a trend towards iced drinks and away from their Frappuccino. A policy of the new lid is smart here as it introduces the new egg-white powder foam as the first flavor of each sip, finishing with the always-delicious Iced Caramel Macchiato.
