NEWS: Star Tours now departing to ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ destinations at Disney Parks

Editor’s Note: This breakdown may include some spoilers for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

The first scenes where we take-off from Star Tours with C-3PO and R2-D2 remain relatively unchanged, with an encounter from either Kylo Ren or the Millennium Falcon. Once we make the jump to lightspeed, we arrive at the ocean moon of Kef Bir, where the wreckage of the second Death Star is located.

After crashing through the waves, the Starspeeder floats into the Death Star remains and immediately encountersthe eye of a Dianoga, the creature that lived in the trash compactor from Star Wars: A New Hope. As we try to escape, it grabs us and pulls us under, revealing several other Dianoga. We break free and make our way through the wreckage and back to space.

Just like with all Star Tours flights, here we receive a transmission, this time from General Lando Calrissian. He tells C-3PO and R2-D2 that he’s happy to see them again, then give us coordinates to help the Resistance with a major battle taking place.

Another jump to lightspeed takes place, bringing us to the planet of Exogal. The final battle as seen in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is happening, with Star Destroyers filling the skies. A piece of ship hits us and we start going down, but we break free and prepare to join the fight. We follow a couple of TIE Fighters and take them out, then we join a group of fighters as we help take down one of the many Star Destroyers.

We make one last jump to lightspeed and end up back at the Star Tours headquarters. As C-3PO gives us the goodbye spiel, we hit a droid and nearly crash into a ship while landing, causing the Starspeeder to fall and land on the level below us. AC-38, the pilot we were supposed to have instead of C-3PO, yells at us and wants an explanation.

Unlike the updates Star Tours received for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” this update encompasses practically the entire ride, giving guests two new planet destinations. According to Tom Fitzgerald on the Disney Parks Blog, “Star Tours now offers you more than 100 storytelling combinations.”

My enthusiasm for all things Disney all started when my parents took our family to WDW for a vacation. My first trip was at age 13. To me, the best part is to conduct research trip at WDW. After college, my father was transferred to Orlando and I moved with my parents. Seeking employment, I applied for a job at WDW. I passed the first rounds of interviews and was proud to join the Disney family as a security cast member! The job was great. It included Disney-specific training and security training before assuming four duties: driving a security vehicle, standing a post, working in a resort or walking a park or other area. Sometimes I even had special duties like working the Epcot Christmas Processional. I would escort the celebrity guests from backstage to onstage. Interestingly, every cast member is given a WDW fact book monthly to aid in answering guest questions. The pocket book contained great Disney facts that added more fuel for my thirst of Disney facts. Well, all-good things must come to end so we moved back to NJ. In the summer of 2010 I moved back to Florida I am now living in Orlando less then 15 minutes from WDW and living the dream and have fun along the way.
