Disney has begun to line-up additional contractors for the Skyliner transportation project.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Reedy Creek Improvement District recently approved a $3.8 million budget for electrical services on its Skyliner gondola project. Carter Electric–based in Apopka–was the sole bidder on the project. Construction trades have been in high demand throughout Central Florida, particularly in the wake of 2017’s Hurricane Irma.
Carter Electric’s bid was reportedly 20% higher than an internal estimate of $3.2 million.
Electrical work is scheduled to being in the next six months. The Skyliner will link two theme parks, Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with a variety of hotels including Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the entire Epcot resorts area.
The forthcoming Disney Vacation Club property, Disney’s Riviera Resort, will also feature a station on the Skyliner route.
Bid documents indicate that a series of materials for the project–1.7 miles’ worth of cable, four switches and six transformers–will cost $1.2 million.
The Skyliner is expected to debut by the fall of 2019 in advance of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios.
