Disney California Adventure, much like all the other U.S.-based Disney Parks, is currently closed. Originally, Avengers Campus was going to open on July 18 of this year. But with the parks temporary closure, the opening has been delayed. Even with this delay, we’re still excited for this land when it’s able to open up properly.

Disney is currently building three major Marvel areas around the world. One, in Disneyland Paris will feature a re-themed Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster to highlight Iron Man. Another, in Hong Kong Disneyland, already has an Iron Man and an Ant Man and the Wasp attraction. And, last but certainly not least, Disney California Adventure will have Avengers Campus.

Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure is the newest expansion in the park. One attraction already exists and took over the place of a previous ride: Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!, which was originally met with resistance from long-time Tower of Terror fans. But, upon its opening, guests truly loved this new vision for the attraction.

This new land will feature new attractions, shops and entertainment. Guests will be able to meet Spider-Man, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, General Okoye, the Dora Milaje, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Captain Marvel, Thor, members of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Widow!

Avengers Campus will feature some buildings, highlighted here, that are important to note. Red, at the top, will be Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. The small green building nearby will most likely be the merchandise store for the attraction, WEB Suppliers. The blue area is expected to be the Doctor Strange meet and greet experience, otherwise known as the Sanctum. The yellow building will be the Pym Test Kitchen food and beverage area. The purple structure is the existing Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! attraction.

To give a better understanding on placement compared to the concept art, the image above has marked points. The aerial image was flipped to better align with the concept image. Red points to Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. Blue, again, is Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum area. Yellow is the main food and beverage option of the area, Pym Test Kitchen. The aqua dot is interesting, because while the building will have Pym branding, it is not actually a building in the land. This show building actually houses the Animation Academy.

The Sanctum Sanctorum will be the area where Doctor Strange meets guests in this land. Doctor Strange will recruit guests to learn the ways of the mystic arts to harness their powers. This will most likely be similar to the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Moving further up, we can see how close Avengers Campus will be to Cars Land. It’s easy to see that the main walkway between Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure and the rest of the land will be smaller. This will work to Disney’s advantage for theming. While the Spider-Man attraction will be easily seen from certain areas of the park, this turned walkway will use the ride’s show building to hide the rest.

This will allow for numerous picturesque moments as guests walk further into the land. While the walkway will be smaller than the other sections in the Avengers Campus, it will actually be quite wide for guest flow. You can compare its size to that of the Radiator Springs roadway in Cars Land next door. The Imagineers are skillfully placing structures to hold attractions, hide backstage areas, make use of what land they have, and use the buildings to hide certain grand-reveal moments.

Currently, this is what guests see on the Disneyland Resort online map. You can see that paths end near the middle of Cars Land and next to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!. These will be the two side entrances to the land, with the main entrance being from the promenade leading up to Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure.

Also, hidden somewhere in this land, will supposedly be Disney’s first attempt at Stuntronics. Disney coined the term, Stuntronics, as “new robotic figure developed by Disney Imagineers – performs extreme aerial maneuvers 60 feet in the air, making real-time decisions for when to tuck, turn, and stick the perfect landing.”

Disney hinted at this tech in a recent Spider-Man promo video, but did not confirm that this tech is being used. However, it does appear that a Spider-Man who can literally fly above the park will apparently be used somewhere in the rooftops.
